Meaning:
Salutations Oh Lord in the form of Surya, the Lord of the beautiful Chaya

Oh illuminator of all infinite causes and effects in the world, the Lord of Simha rasi. One whose effulgent lustre has been praised by those of highest esteem, the bestower of benefits such as good health.

Friend to the day-lotus, a friend to all, the most resplendent one, the thousand-rayed, the father of Karna, the fire swallowing dreadful sins, whose brilliance has delighted Guruguha, one who is praised by the learned, the auspicious day-jewel, crest-jewel to Chandra and other planets, worshipped by the energetic, the witness to all actions, one who has the chariot drawn by the seven divine horses. One whose principle nature is embedded in the eight-syllabled hymn of praise, who is of golden hue, of the nature of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and who confers material benefits and spiritual emancipation

Shraddhanjali to Sangeeta Kalanidhi Padmabhushan Dr. Sri Pada Pinakapani

Sangeeta Kalanidhi Dr Sri Pada PinakaPani (1913-2013 )

Legendary Carnatic vocalist Sangeeta Kalanidhi Dr Sri Pada Pinakapani passed away on 11th March 2013 at Kurnool. I offer my Sabhakti poorna  pranams and Shraddanjali to the feet of Dr Pinakapani.

His main hobby was Classical Carnatic Music. His Adi-Guru was (Late) Sri B.S. Lakshmanarao of Mysore, a fourth generation disciple of Saint Sri Tyagaraja Swamy. His Gurus in advanced music were ‘PADMASREE’ Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu (late) and Sri Ranga Ramanuja Ayyangar(late) of Madras. He performed in All India Radio since October1938 until 2001and gave Public Concerts in all over in Andhra Pradesh, some places in Tamil nadu, Delhi, Bangalore and Bombay.

Dr Pinakapani, as a  Great Guru and author :

His music pursuit and activities did continue to more than significant extent after this. He continued to train students who sought him. He put all the music he acquired through more than 5 decades of single minded effort, into a book, and this was published by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam of Tirupati in the four volume magnum opus the SANGEETHA SOWURABHAMU, containing more than 1000 kritis of various composers notated, which he reset into delectable Tanjavur bani (gharana) for which he strived throughout his entire life. This set of books happens to be the source of quality compositions for all aspiring musicians in India and abroad. And many more publications have come up subsequently. He realized that after him only the books continue to be the source of music and put all his energies for the posterity.
MANODHARMA SANGITAM is the book which gives insight into how to develop one’s own manodharma and this has been accepted as one of the books recommended by Telugu University of Hyderbad for music students.
PALLAVI GANA SUDHA, is a unique colletion of more than 160 PALLAVI’S of classic rendition notated and of them 25 have detailed work up. This book is published in both Telugu and English.
MELARAGAMALIKA, contains the description of the 72 melaragas and the actual Melaragamalika was originally composed by Sri Mahavaidya Natha Iyer. To this Dr Pinakapani added notes and brought out in a beautiful book with the Sanchari Swaras on the facing page of each component raga of the ragamalika. Thus it serves as guide to an aspirant musician of the 72 melakarthas. He composed the tune of 108 Annamacharya Kritis in Tanjavur Bani and dedicated them to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.
He was awarded Gupta Foundation Award of Eluru in 1993, Lifetime Achievement Award by Nadabharathi of Hyderabad in 2001, Gadicherla Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, Lifetime Achievement Award by SAPNA (Sri Annamacharya Project of North America) in 2004, Dr.Jandhyala Dakshina Murthy Foundation Lifetime achievement Award 2005, Kalasagara of Hyderabad in 2008.
He trained many in advanced Classical Carnatic music and the famous among them are Sri. Nookala China Satyanaryana, Sri Nedunuri Krishna Murthy, (Late) Sri Voleti Venkateswarlu, (Late) Kumari Srirangam Gopalaratnam, Smt Sistla Vasundhra Devi, Smt K. Subbalakshmi (daughter of Meduri Ramamurthy), Smt. Jayalakshmi Sekhar of Malaysia, (veena). Popular musicians like Sri Malladi Brothers are regular visitors to Dr. Pinakapani for guidance and elobaration of finer points in advanced music.
One notable fact is that his First music disciple Sri Nookala Chinna Satyanarayan himself had been awarded Padma Bhushan AWARD in 2010.
His only deterrent was his old age. He breathed music when he was not praying or asleep and used to sing and said music comes on its own without effort and he cannot help but keep singing. He continuously kept making changes to the nuances and fineness of expression of ragas and he was expressing his desire to make delectable music with short phrases and attributed this effort to his failing breath capacity.
